This overview introduces the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission and the fundamental puzzles it was built to solve. Four spacecraft fly in a tight formation to study magnetic reconnection, a process that explosively releases energy in Earth's magnetosphere. Understanding it could improve predictions of space weather that affects satellites and power grids.
